AN UNUSUAL EXAMPLE OF A SMALL WELSH 'CWPWRDD BARA CAWS' OR BREAD & CHEESE CUPBOARD, IN TWO PARTS; THE UPPER PART WITH OGEE CORNICE ABOVE RECESSED PANEL CUPBOARD DOORS, WITH FRUITWOOD TURNED SPINDLES, SHELVED INTERIOR, THE LOWER SECTION WITH TWO SCRATCH MOULDED DRAWERS, OLD REPLACED BRASS SWAN NECK HANDLES AND ESCUTHCEONS, PANELED CUPBOARD DOORS WITH RECESSED OAK PANEL SIDES, SAWN PLANKED BACK ,STOOD ON SHAPED BRACKET FEET.
BOUGHT FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE, THE PIECE HAS UNDERGONE OLD REPAIRS IN ITS LIFETIME -TO SIDE AND CORNICE MOULDINGS AND FEET, PERIOD PEGGED REPAIR TO CROSSSTILE (SEE PHOTO) BUT ESSENTIALLY PRETTY LITTLE THING WITH LIGHT GOLDEN COLOUR AND PATINATION.
ITS SLIGHTLY ATYPICAL STYLE OF CONSTRUCTION , SMALL PROPORTIONS AND COLOUR OF TIMBER SUGGESTS ORIGINS LOW ROOF COTTAGE SETTING SOUTHERN SNOWDONIA / MID WALES REGION CIRCA 1790-1810
